2304 Stainless Steel Bar - Detailed Information

Introduction

2304 stainless steel is a duplex stainless steel grade that combines excellent corrosion resistance with high strength. The unique composition of this material offers a blend of properties that make it ideal for applications where both corrosion resistance and mechanical strength are critical.

Chemical Composition

Chromium (Cr):22.0 - 24.0%

Nickel (Ni):3.5 - 5.5%

Molybdenum (Mo):0.05 - 0.60%

Nitrogen (N):0.05 - 0.20%

Carbon (C):≤ 0.03%

Manganese (Mn):≤ 2.00%

Silicon (Si):≤ 1.00%

Phosphorus (P):≤ 0.035%

Sulfur (S):≤ 0.015%

Key Properties

Corrosion Resistance:2304 stainless steel exhibits excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride environments.

Strength:The duplex microstructure of 2304 stainless steel provides high mechanical strength, making it stronger than conventional austenitic stainless steels.

Weldability:2304 stainless steel has good weldability, and its low carbon content minimizes the risk of intergranular corrosion in welded structures.

Toughness:This grade maintains good toughness, even in low temperatures.

Mechanical Properties

Tensile Strength:600 - 800 MPa

Yield Strength:400 - 600 MPa

Elongation:≥ 25%

Hardness:≤ 280 HB

Applications

2304 stainless steel bars are used in a wide range of applications where high strength and corrosion resistance are required. Common uses include:

Structural components in the oil and gas industry

Chemical processing equipment

Heat exchangers

Pressure vessels

Marine and coastal environments

Pulp and paper industry

Standards and Specifications

ASTM/AISI:UNS S32304

EN:1.4362

DIN:X2CrNiN23-4

JIS:SUS2304

GB:00Cr23Ni4N

Advantages

Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking

High mechanical strength

Good weldability without the need for post-weld heat treatment

Lower cost compared to higher-alloyed grades like 2205 and 2507

Conclusion

2304 stainless steel bars offer a unique combination of corrosion resistance, strength, and cost-effectiveness, making them suitable for a variety of industrial applications. Their versatility and durability ensure reliable performance in challenging environments.
